On Meditation
What enhances my life that I can share with you?
I meditate.
I know a lot of you will opt out at this point. Not interested, tried, doesn’t work for you, I've heard it over and over . . . all the reasons people can’t meditate, sit still etc.
But I’m just going to suggest a quiet MOMENT at the threshold of your day- perhaps the time you spend stirring your hot tea (or coffee) or the moments you spend in the shower. Just a little alone time to take a few conscious breaths. A way to empty and prepare your mind and heart for the day. Before checking your email, the weather, texts. Before deadlines and obligations engulf your attention and insidious voices start to infiltrate your head!
Anchor yourself with some conscious breathing - a counted breath 4 or 5 counts in and out - even counts on the inhale and exhale to balance yourself.
This is essentially a call to presence.
A way to open yourself to the clear uncluttered space of your mind and heart.— and acknowledge the potential and possibility.
The more you can rest in a spacious awareness, the more it will stay with you through the day.
Where do good decisions come from?
A calm mind.

That's why I meditate. My decisions include how I spend my time, who I surround myself with, what i read, watch, even food choices etc. Every choice I make is informed by my mind- calm or not calm. I can always tell the difference.
Take a breath.
My gift to you….a free month of meditation on the Waking Up app, give it a try- the introductory course is 30 days of 10-minute meditations. It doesn't get any easier. What have you got to lose? (Maybe anxiety, stress, negative thoughts, fear-based decisions, regret, …?)
