Follow the Leader Dance Class

  • Soulage 9 East Franklin Street Baltimore, MD, 21202 United States (map)

Get ready to get down. This experience is about having fun, being silly and getting sweaty. It relies on group participation, and individual willingness to take a turn. This is not about learning dance moves.  You don’t have to be a great dancer, or have any formal dance training experience.

How it works:

After a 15-minute guided warm-up, participants take turns ‘being the leader.’ Each leader takes 1-2 minutes to lead (we’ll have a timer), and everyone else in the room does what they do. There could be prancing, swishing, two-step, twirling, the lawnmower, the robot, or even a little funky chicken.  Whatever the leader does, everyone else does too.

Consider watching this video for inspiration.  We will intersperse opportunities for free dance throughout the evening.

Rules:

  • Ages 18+

  • Wear comfortable clothing, socks or barefoot.

  • Put your hands everywhere, except on other people without their permission.

  • Bring a lot of water.

$10 per person.  All profits will be donated to Charm City Fringe, a Baltimore-based nonprofit that unites people through art, builds community, provides a place for weird, and empowers artists in producing bold, fun entertainment.

About Becky

Becky Eisen loves to use play to create joyful communal experiences.  Becky is not certified in anything related to dance, but she was in the show choir in high school, knows over 40 icebreaker games and was once complimented by a B-rate movie star in Las Vegas for moving her arms and legs like spaghetti.

Becky is also the Vice-President of the board of directors for Charm City Fringe, a Baltimore based nonprofit that puts on an annual performing arts festival focused on showcasing new and off the beaten path works of art.  She facilitates the ‘Follow the leader’ dance class as a fundraiser for Charm City Fringe.
